The King County Ferry District is looking for a number of Island residents to participate in a discussion about passenger-only ferry service between Vashon and downtown Seattle at a focus group at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18.

Specifically, the agency is looking for periodic riders — those who ride the pedestrian-only boat at least once or twice a month. Focus groups for those who commute regularly on the water taxi are already full.

Participants will be served sandwiches and beverages prior to the 90-minute session and will receive $75 for their time and effort. The discussion will be held in downtown Seattle.

Christopher Wheeler, who handles special projects for the King County Department of Transportation’s Marine Division, said the county is interested in hearing from riders as it works to determine the future of the water taxi service.

“They’re the stakeholders who ultimately matter to us. What are the problems they’re having? What do they like about the boats? All that information is important to us,” he said.

Those interested in participating in the discussion should contact Wheeler by e-mail at christopher.wheeler@kingcounty.gov. At that time, he’ll provide the exact location and other details.
