Following a decision made at the Thursday, Feb. 10 Vashon Island School District (VISD) board meeting to move discussion regarding the Commons decision back to a Commons Committee meeting, a date for the meeting has been set.
The Commons Committee meeting will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11 at the Ober Park Administration Building’s multi-purpose room, according to a public notice on the Vashon Park District (VPD) website. The meeting will not be broadcast over Zoom.
The decision to hold a Commons Committee meeting came following pushback from user groups after VISD announced its intention to consider motions to exit the commons and consider a contract with Facilitron, a California-based facilities management company, to assist in managing the rentals of its fields and spaces.
The Commons Agreement, which has been in place for over three decades, allows VPD to facilitate community use of VISD properties, including fields and buildings, during non-school hours.
VISD and VPD representatives will be present at the Commons Committee meeting, as will David Hackett, who is the new representative for Park District user groups. Previously, Darragh Kennan was the representative for park district user groups but he has since resigned from that role.
