Fishers catch many in derby

The Annual Frank Matsumoto Memorial Salmon Derby was held by the Vashon Sportsmen’s Club on Sunday, Aug. 10, at Jensen Point. This derby is open to all Island fishers and is traditionally held in August when the Chinook runs come through.

It was a beautiful day, with lots of fishermen on the water at or before 5 a.m., anxious anglers all.

The largest fish was just over 20 pounds, and several others were just under 20 pounds.

There were many youngsters fishing, and they too caught lots of fish and received lots of prizes.

Many prizes — cash and otherwise — were awarded to different categories of fishermen.

Danny Rice caught the biggest fish among Sportsmen’s Club members.
