A cash box containing an estimated $600 in cash and checks was stolen from a popular farm stand on Maury Island Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

Jen Parker, who manages Pacific Crest Farm on Dockton Road, said the job was an extensive one: The cash box was attached to a steel post that was held in the ground by way of a concrete block, considered one of the most secure cash boxes on Vashon, she said.

“They came in and dug all around the concrete and took the whole thing with them,” Parker said.

Parker hadn’t emptied the box in about a week and estimates it held around $600 — the amount the farm has been making over the last few weeks.

“It’s really disappointing,” she said of the theft.

The farm is owned by a Montessori school in Seattle, which uses the farm as a learning opportunity for its students.

“We’re just growing vegetables. We’re not making any money,” Parker added.
