A Vashon woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after driving her car into a telephone pole last week.
Gail Guthrie, 44, struck a telephone poll at S.W. 158th St. and Vashon Highway S.W. on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 10, said Assistant Chief George Brown. She was driving a Honda Civic and there was no one else in the vehicle.
Gail Guthrie’s daughter, Amber Guthrie, said her mother, who was trapped in the car for about half an hour before responders could open the vehicle, suffered a broken ankle and several broken ribs.
“She has to have surgery on her ankle next week. She’s going to be in the hospital for another week or two,” Amber Guthrie said.
It is unknown why Gail Guthrie drove off the road, though Amber Guthrie said witnesses said she may have been cut off by another car.
“She doesn’t remember anything,” she said.
