Learn to make large paper 3-D snowflake decorations at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Senior Center on Bank Road. The class is free and open to everyone.
Supplies will be provided, but participants are asked to bring scissors and a stapler if they can.

The Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting will be at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. Meet at 5:45 p.m. in front of Movie Magic for a holiday parade with the high school band and Santa and Mrs. Claus. The holiday tree lighting will be at Ober Park around 6 p.m.
Café Luna, Books by the Way and Frame of Mind will host free holiday photography sessions by Rebecca Douglas and the Vashon Youth Chorus and Bethel Chuch performers singing Christmas favorites. There will also be roasted chestnuts and cider, with organizers also promising snow. And merchants throughout downtown will be open for coupons to be dropped off.
The fifth annual All-Island Middle School Holiday Art and Craft Sale will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Carpe Diem Primary School, located in the Land Trust Building.
All middle-school students may show their artistic talents and sell their crafts. Students must sign up to participate; forms are available at The Harbor School, McMurray Middle School and at www.vashonPTSA.org. All proceeds go to individual sellers, though students will be encouraged to donate a portion of their sales to a charitable organization.

The Vashon Farmers Market Holiday Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Village Green Saturdays, Dec. 6 and 13.
Farmers will have Island-grown produce for holiday tables, and Island artisans will have a wide range of fine art, jewelry, woodwork, clothing, photography, tiles, cards and other goods available.
Shoppers can admire and shop under a heated circus-style tent and enjoy hot soup, bread and pastries.
Vashon Film Society is hosting a free holiday film extravaganza and will show “A Christmas Story” at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, followed by “One Magic Christmas” at the Vashon Park District building.
Cookies, popcorn and drinks will be served. Organizers hope to conclude by 9:30 p.m.
The Blue Heron Dance Company will offer its version of The Nut-cracker at 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6, and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Vashon High School theater.
Tickets are $10 for Vashon Allied Arts members and $13 for nonmembers.
Holiday Nature Crafts will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, with Barbara Gustafson at the Vashon Library.
Create lovely gifts for friends and family: fragrant evergreen wreaths, sparkling fir cones, watercolors, woven ornaments and more.
All materials are provided for this free annual holiday workshop, which is for ages 5 through 10.

The Keepers of Point Robinson will host an open house at the lighthouse from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.
The Lighthouse Santa will be there; the ship’s store will be open for holiday shopping, and there will be refreshments.
Both sets of quarters will be open for viewing and rental planning, and Captain Joe will be giving tours at the lighthouse.
Boy Scout Troop 294 will host its annual Christmas tree sale behind US Bank from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14.
The prices will be the same as last year, with many varieties available. All proceeds will help Vashon Boy Scout programs.
Photos with Santa will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 and 13, at Santa’s Cottage behind US Bank.
The Annual Holly Daze Christmas Bazaar will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Vashon High School and hosted by Vashon’s guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital. A tasty lunch menu will be offered for busy shoppers.
Vashon Island Chorale’s annual holiday concert, “A Celebration of Carols,” will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Bethel Evangelical Free Church.

The Vashon Island Civic Ballet will perform “The Nutcracker” at Vashon High School for several performances in December.
The shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12, 13, 19 and 20, and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 20.
Tickets will be $8 for adults, $5 for seniors age 60 and over, $4 for kids ages 5 though 12 and free for kids 4 and under.
Vashon Island Pet Protectors will host its holiday bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, outside of Thriftway.

The Vashon Island Chorale will host a singalong of Handel’s “Messiah” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 p.m. A small orchestra, which Gaye Detzer is assembling, will also play. Any instrumentalist who would like to play may contact Detzer.
Everyone who loves to sing or who loves the “Messiah” is encouraged to come.
