UPCOMING

See ‘Uncounted’

The film “Uncounted” is an explosive new documentary that contends the election fraud that changed the outcome of the 2004 election led to even greater fraud in 2006 — and now looms as an unbridled threat to the outcome of the 2008 election.

This controversial feature-length film by Emmy award-winning director David Earnhardt examines how easy it is to change election outcomes and undermine election integrity across the United States. Noted computer programmers, statisticians, journalists and experienced election officials provide evidence.

The Vashon Youth Council will host the viewing at the Vashon Theatre at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23.

An admission donation of $10 will support Vashon Youth Council. For more information, call 463-7350 or see www.vashonyouthcouncil.org.

Redefine retirement

Beverly A. Battaglia, PhD., Island resident and author of “Changing Lanes: Couples Redefining Retirement,” will read from and sign her new book and share how couples have successfully dealt with the unexpected challenges of retirement.

She and her husband have been part-time Island residents for 10 years, and she interviewed many Islanders for the book.

Books by the Way will host the event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.

For more information, call the book store at 463-2696.

Drugs and teens

PTSA is sponsoring a parent information night, “Drugs, Alcohol & Your Teen,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Vashon High School library. Stephen Bogan, a chemical dependency counselor, will present information on various topics, including developmental effect of drugs and alcohol on the teenage brain, peer pressure, what parents can do, warning signs and resources available for help.

There will be time set aside for questions and answers.

ONGOING

Movie Magic

During the month of October, Movie Magic is hosting a “food drive-thru” to benefit the food bank. Islanders can bring a canned good to the espresso drive-thru and receive an entry for the store’s anniversary basket. The more cans a person donates, the more forms entered. The drawing will be Oct. 31.
