Local students open for Seattle band
Vashon High School musicians will open for the post-punk Seattle band Chastity Belt at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the Red Bike.
The event will be the 12th concert in the series Sharing the Stage, which brought Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to the island in 2011. Local musicians mentor the students before the youth open for the off-island bands. The line-up of students this year will include Soccermoms, Ten Cent Time Machine, Ruby Seago & Eva Cyra, Mallory Breen, Kate Atwell and Payton Lieske.
Maggie Laird performs at the Red Bike
Maggie Laird and her band will perform an all-original set at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Red Bike.
Laird will include songs from her new CD release, “One More Manhattan,” recorded last June in Nashville. The set was first performed to a standing-room-only crowd at an album release party in Seattle.
Laird is familiar to Vashon audiences as a vocalist for Island Jazz Quintet and The Portage Philharmonic and has done extensive recording with other groups.
“The music displays her roots in rock, pop, cabaret and the theatre, while always having the spirit of jazz,” writes Scott Janow, author of “The Jazz Singers.”
The free show is open to all ages until 11 p.m., then 21 and older after that.
ID is required.
