Jason Everett will play world music

Jason Everett plays a variety of stringed and percussive instruments, including his custom Conklin seven-string fretless bass guitar, electric upright bass and an electric sitar of his own design.

Everett will play his instrumental world music from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at The Hardware Store Restaurant.

Everett, who is also a composer, arranger and producer, released his first solo album of Indian-influenced world music “Tal Maya” in 2010 and more recently produced and released “Waves of Sound” with his world fusion band, Tarana.

Young thespians perform shortened version of play

The Vashon Island Shakespeare Festival’s ShakesKIDS will perform a one-hour version of William Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Ober Park performance space.

ShakesKIDS’ version of “Hamlet” is stripped of its political storyline, which reveals questions of how individuals cope with and move forward in the face of a radical shift in circumstance. The children explore related questions like: When is action preferable to inaction?  When is loyalty more important than self preservation? Who am I when tested by fate? The children, ages 9 to 12, each take a turn playing Hamlet.

All ages are welcome at the free event.

Band will play country holiday music

Join Vashon’s popular bluegrass/Cajun/rock/folk band RiverBend for a morning of country Christmas music and holiday cheer from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie.

The band spans several musical genres, brings a breadth of musical experience and a wide range of instrumentation to its performances. Band members include Chuck Roehm, Paul Colwell, Dave Lang, Rochelle Munger, Cliff Simpson and Peter Larsen.

All ages are welcome at the free event.

Singers perform holiday songs as a fundraiser

Singers and songwriters V. Contreras, Martin Feveyear and Delilah Pearl will perform a benefit show for the DoVE Project at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie.

The show will start promptly at 5 p.m. Seating is limited, with a lot of standing room, so early arrival is encouraged.

A suggestion donation of $15 will be taken at the door or can be made before the event at the Vashon Bookshop.
