Comedy is on tap at the Bike
An evening billed as “Delay the Taxman Comedy” will start at 8 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Red Bicycle Bistro. Hosted by local humorist and provocateur Steffon Moody, the evening will feature some Vashon High School students, including Brazilian foreign exchange student Victor Silva, as well as graduating seniors and musicians Sam Veatch and James Spencer. Also appearing will be the Blomgren Brothers — Per Lars and Anders — and Kevin Joyce, Aimee Cartier, Harris Levinson, Karen Biondo and Jim Farrell. Admission is $5, and because the material might be spicy, the show isn’t recommended for young children.
Music and film at Café Luna
There will be a free acoustic folk/pop concert at 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Café Luna, featuring singer and songwriter Beth Whitney, performing with upright bassist Aaron Fishburn. The pair has recorded music and toured throughout the Northwest.
The next night, at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 16, Lunavision and Peter Ray will present “The Tillman Story,” a documentary film about Pat Tillman, at the café. Tillman gave up a career in professional football to join the Army in the wake of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Tillman died in battle in Afganistan, and the film chronicles the Tillman family’s crusade to reveal the truth behind his death.
An evening of Indian music
Pandit Vikash Maharaj, who is a master sarod performer from Varanasi, India, will perform a concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Vashon Havurah, 15401 Westside Highway. Maharaj, whose family has performed music for 14 generations, will play in concert with his son Prabhash, a master on tabla. Don’t miss Danny O’Keefe
Danny O’Keefe, an Island singer and songwriter whose songs have been recorded by the likes of Judy Collins, Elvis Presley, Jackson Browne, Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss and Alan Jackson, will perform a concert with multi-instrumentalist Joel Tepp at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, on the Blue Heron stage. VALISE wants everyone’s artwork
VALISE Gallery has issued a call for artists for an all-ages, all-Island art exhibit, set to take place in May. The show is titled “The Elephant in the Room, the Snake in the Suitcase … or What is Censorship?” Organizers have said they hope the exhibit sparks an Island-wide discussion about the topic of censorship. Two- and three-dimensional artwork, writings, video, performance and music will all be accepted into the show. The exhibit is open to all Islanders — it won’t be juried, and everyone is welcome to display art and create performances and other live events connected to the theme of the show.
