This Friday the Gallery Cruise will once again bring a diverse mix of art into Vashon’s studios and businesses — painting, sculpture, photography and more by all ages, from budding students to masterful creators. Most galleries open at 6 p.m.

Bergamot Studio and Bergamot Home, a new textile design studio and shop, is having its grand opening in the historic Masonic Temple building, which was the former home of Silverwood Gallery, in Burton. An opening exhibition will feature works by shop owner Kassana Holden and Mary Margaret Briggs, as well as furniture and accessories from Briggs & Company. Blooms & Things will display work by Suzanne Britton, a hand-building clay artist whose work has been shown in galleries up and down the West Coast. Her sculpted porcelain clay art is inspired by the beauty and diversity of the Pacific and Northwest coastal beaches and forests.

Blue Heron Gallery will exhibit “Dream Lessons,” a show of imaginative mixed media works by Morgan Brig. The show includes almost 50 pieces made of metal, glass, collage and painting — works that explore the strengths and frailties of the human spirit, using metaphor and poetry. The reception will feature live music by Richard Person and Jim Hobson. Brig will also participate in the November VAA Gallery show, “Journeys,” an assemblage exhibition featuring nine Island artists.

Common Thread, a shop featuring products by a collaborative of fiber artists, will showcase the work of Jenni Wilke, who will display a collection of outfits inspired by characters from “Alice in Wonderland.” All the clothing is made from recycled materials. Wilke’s clothing line, Just Stuff, consists of clothing that has been “upcycled” from second-hand or sustainably made clothing. The line encourages people to ask questions, seek out information and actively change their habits when it comes to the consumption of clothing and other products.

The Hardware Store Restaurant will see the return of Vashon Island Pet Protectors’ Art Cats, a display of beautifully decorated “far-out felines” by Vashon artists in celebration of VIPP’s Fur Ball on Nov. 3. Other items donated to the auction, Vashon’s 10th Fur Ball, will also be on display.

Heron’s Nest will showcase baskets by Margaret Smith and gourds by Jean Gibbs.

Ignition Gallery will display “The Cloud of Unknowing,” an exhibit of work by collage artist Tara Snowden. A medieval book with the same title inspired Snowden to create the work. Snowden described the show as “built around images of destruction and psychological portraits of women centered with complex and seamlesss arrangements of images of the natural and man-made world.”

Mileta Creek Restaurant, at Vashon Golf & Swim Club, will have an exhibit of paintings by Marilyn Blitz. The show will run through November.

Snapdragon Bakery and Café will exhibit the colorful abstract paintings of Marianne Maksirisombat, a Seattle artist. Examples of her three-dimensional canvas forms will also be on display. To check out her work, visit www.missmarianne.com.

Raven’s Nest will host a show titled “Call of the Raven.” There will be a new collection of metal sculpture by Gunter Reimnitz, new jewelry with raven carvings by Sue Shotridge, art cards and prints, apparel, books and more. Stop in at the shop and hear a special talk about ravens on the night of the reception.

Two Wall Gallery will host “Just Teens,” an exhibit of the photography by students of Ray Pfortner and Christine Beck, who shot images in Vashon Allied Arts teen photography workshop and during McMurray Middle School’s Exploratory Week photography course. Approximately 60 prints by 20 teens will be shown, including images shot at the brand new LeMay Car Museum, Point Definance Zoo, Pike Place Market and other locations. Pfortner said the show “will make almost any adult think hard about how they make photographs — and about taking a class or two to improve their results.” Most of the teen photographers will be at the reception on Friday.

VALISE will exhibit acrylic on masonite paintings, giclée prints and a selection of drawings and mixed-media constructions by Islander Pascale Judet. The artist makes a daily practice of drawing, and her paintings emerge and evolve out of the process of drawing. She has shown paintings and mixed-media constructions at Davidson Gallery in Seattle, Vashon Allied Arts, Gallery 070 and VALISE and sold painted clocks and other craft objects wholesale to stores and galleries in the United States and abroad.

Vashon Community Care will display photography by Lotus and Peter Milovsoroff. The exhibit is a large collection of photos of Vashon, farming, Hawaii and the Southwest as seen through the eye of two Island artists.

Vashon Intuitive Arts will show shelves and wall hangings made from driftwood by Vashon native Kay Berst.

Vashon Senior Center will display art by students of Geri Peterson’s “Fearless Watercolor Painting” class.
