WHAT: Vashon’s spring art studio tour is a two-weekend long celebration of Vashon’s artistic bounty and gives the public a chance to meet dozens of artists and see artwork in a wide variety of Island settings.
WHEN & WHERE: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, May 1, 2, 8 and 9, in studios all over the Island. Most local galleries and shops will also display Island-made art during the tour.
HOW TO TAKE THE TOUR: Tour brochures, which include a map, can be found at most Island businesses or online at www.vashonislandartstudiotour.com. The tour is free.
ABOUT THE TOUR: Each spring, Vashon artists open their studio doors to welcome Island neighbors, newcomers, gawkers and buyers alike to show off what they have been busy creating during the rainy winter months.
During this spring’s tour, art will bloom at 29 studios located all over the Island.
Tour organizers are hoping that Islanders use the tour as an excuse to explore the Island.
“Spring is a lovely time to tool around to neighborhoods that are off your beaten trail,” said Liz Lewis, a well-known Island potter who is one of the guiding forces behind the art tour.
Lewis also pointed out that the tour will include almost every kind of art imaginable — paintings and fine art prints, ceramics, photo-graphy, pottery, furniture, clothing and other fiber art, jewelry, glass and even toys. The tour will also provide chances for tour-goers to see artists demonstrate all kinds of techniques, ranging from watercolor painting to Ukranian egg decorating.
“Be sure to schedule some time this month — as much time as possible — to see art on Vashon,” Lewis urged. “It doesn’t get any better than this.”
