Irene Otis will exhibit ceramic tiles and “timeless” clocks at The Little House, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1.
Little House owner Bettie Edwards has urged Otis to return to clock-making for some time now, and said she’s thrilled the tile maker has committed to doing just that.
Otis began making tiles 30 years ago. She chose glazed tiles as her medium because she was looking for a more permanent surface that could withstand the wear and tear of life with small children.
The tiles, which began as personal reminders for the artist, gradually began to make their way into homes on Vashon. Her tiles are now in galleries, homes, offices and public spaces. The images and words on each of those tiles communicate a blend of optimism and acceptance, accentuated with bright colors and succinct words.
Clocks by Otis will be available on Vashon only at The Little House.
