The Moonshine, a string band out Portland, will play at the Red Bike on Saturday evening.
The Moonshine has been called an “idea on the rise.” A five-piece band with guitar, autoharp, fiddle, banjo and upright bass, The Moonshine began crafting a style all their own in 2012, applying traditional string band techniques to an eclectic palette of influences and the unconventional songwriting of Michael Gerard Levasseur.
“His songs have acquired a texture that’s more British post-punk than Americana,” one reviewer said of Levasseur’s music, “with melodies that seem to take shape on the fly, guided by Levasseur’s trembly, angsty vocals.”
The free show starts at 8:30 p.m. Friday and is all-ages until 11 p.m., and 21 and older only after that.
