Step lively: Vashon’s Daughter’s Dance will soon return

It’s a night for dancing, laughter, and making cherished memories.

The Vashon Daughters’ Dance will return for its 14th edition from 5:30-9 p.m. Saturday, April 12 — a night filled with dancing, laughter, and making cherished memories.

Taking place in the grand atrium of Vashon Center for the Arts, festivities will start with a sumptuous pre-dance meal and dessert, before attendees kick up their heels.

The beloved island tradition has now charmed generations of daughters and their chaperones alike.

“I loved seeing the dresses the other girls were wearing, the dancing and dessert,” said Calyx Vroom, age 10. “I’m looking forward to this year’s dance — and having special time with just me and my dad.”

“The Daughter’s Dance is hands-down one of our favorite nights of the year,” said Jamie Lopez, one of the lead organizers this year. “My daughter and I never miss it — we laugh, dance, and have the best time. Being part of the planning committee the last few years has been a great excuse to hang out with other island dads and make something really special for our kids.”

This year’s theme, Do-Si-Do Delight, is Western-inspired and promises an unforgettable evening of all types of dancing. Dave Harry, one of Washington’s most well-known line callers since 1968, will lead square and line dancing fun, before the dance floor opens up for dance favorites until 9 p.m.

Dress is formal, with an optional western flair. A complimentary professional photo will capture the magic of the evening for all attendees.

This year, tickets are all-inclusive, covering both the dinner and dance: $50 per adult, $50 for first daughter, and $25 for each additional daughter. The event often sells out, so get tickets early for a delightful evening of connection, celebration, and dancing.
