Beginning this Friday, Tom Conway, a photographer, writer, gardener and cook, will display his mouth-watering photographs at Café Luna this month. Inspired by things that look good enough to eat, Conway says he looks at what he grows and bakes and then shares the visual harvest and meal with the viewer. He sees the farm stand as an art gallery and the kitchen counter as a canvas. Anna Witte, Café Luna’s September featured artist, will also display new paintings.
Heron’s Nest will exhibit work by island photographer Lori Kay Gustavson. Gustavson grew up in the Bay Area but moved to Vashon 25 years ago. After two decades as a criminal defense trial attorney, Gustavson turned her attention to photography. She says she seeks to capture the pleasing shapes and images so easily discovered on the island.
Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union will present “The Spirit of Beauty,” photographs by Richard Kasden, with music provided by Ken Jacobson. Though he never intended to become a photographer, Kasden said his photographic journey has shown him how alive and beautiful the world is.
Raven’s Nest will reopen in its new location, the previous site of Constantinople, and will feature a new collection of Northwest Coast Native arts and gifts, highlighting Tlingit artist Israel Shotridge. Renowned Navajo musician Vince Redhouse will perform on the flute as a preview for his Saturday night concert at Vashon High School.
Hastings Cone Gallery will show work by artist David W. Lynch.
VALISE presents Seattle photographer Erica Keeling, an analogue photographer and oil painter. Her photography depicts lone subjects in meticulously staged settings.
Crystalline porcelain by Ginny Conrow, encaustics by Gay Schy and photography/encaustics by Ray Pfortner will be featured in the Vashon Allied Arts Gallery. Music will be provided by Steve Touger, Fletcher Andrews and Steve Meyer.
The Heritage Museum will continue exhibiting “Vashon Island’s Native People: Navigating Seas of Change.”
