Islanders of all ages turned out on a pleasantly cloudy Monday night to pack Vashon Highway and enjoy the sights, sounds, thrills, and chills of Halloween uptown.
Presented by the Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce, the always-anticipated annual event brought out the cutest and creepiest islanders to roam the closed-off streets from Ober Park to the theatre.
Ghouls, goblins, jellyfish, and pups alike took full advantage of the opportunity to show off costumes of all stripes.
Businesses jumped right into the festivities with free candy and hot beverages to warm chilled bones.
Islanders were particularly eager to enjoy the new plaza at the Vashon Theatre, which came alive with music and games and lured innocent souls close with the enticing smell of hot, buttered popcorn.
The Vashon Park District haunted the hills near Ober Park with a wicked walk-through that produced as many smiles as screams. Pandora’s Box reprised their spooky salute to pets, and Windemere joined the scary real estate action as “Windemorgue, the Island Haunt Experts.”
John L. Scott brought the party to the four-way and handed out candy while Loren Sinner and the Saints rocked the streets where Pikachu, T-Rex, unicorns, zombies danced together in perfect harmony with a wild coven of witches – and Vashon Island Fire and Rescue was on-hand to heal any dance-related injuries for those brave enough to enter a full-flash, smoke-filled ambulance.
Always the intrepid explorers, the popular Golden Retriever lions caged their friendly, fiercest new puppy edition.
At the south end of town, Snapdragon again hosted a jam-packed post-party with wicked white rabbits leading patrons delightfully astray, lending a late-night lift and adding another jewel in the crown to Vashon’s legendary love of Halloween.
