Red Bicycle Bistro and Sushi will serve up some homegrown music this weekend, with free shows planned on Friday and Saturday featuring a roster of Island talent.

Captain Dick & The Portholes will play at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.

Formed in the mid-1980s, the Portholes currently boasts eight members, with six of them calling Vashon home.

The band has been an integral part of Strawberry Festival since 1992, either headlining the Saturday night street dance or packing the Sportsman’s Inn for two nights of old-fashioned rock and roll. Other gigs throughout the years have taken the band up north to Alaska and on tours throughout Western Washington.

The Portholes show is for ages 21 and older only, but at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, the Spotlights will play a free all-ages show at the Bike.

The Spotlights were originally scheduled to perform at the Bike in December, but had to cancel because of the snowstorm. Comprised of Islanders Danny Cadman, Lauren Sinner, Jerry Todo and Scotty Johnson, the band plays classic rock and roll.

Sunday night’s show with The Spotlights is part of an ongoing local music project at the Red Bicycle started by Pete Welch, the venue’s booking agent. Designed to showcase our local Island talent and provide all-ages entertainment, the Sunday night events start earlier than other music shows at the Bike.

The Bike features a full bar and dinner menu.
