The “Best of the Seattle International Comedy Competition” will come to Vashon at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Vashon Theatre — part of a longstanding collaboration between the Seattle comedy institution and the island’s local movie theater.
The show on Oct. 1 will feature Chase Mayers, host Rick Kunkler and headline comic Phillip Kopczynski.
Mayers is a stand-up comedian, based in Seattle, who has toured the country, performing everywhere from bowling alleys to college campuses to 1,000-seat venues in more than 30 states. He was awarded “Best of the Fest” at the Burbank Comedy Festival, and can be heard on Sirius XM.
Kunkler and Kopczynski were Seattle International Comedy Competition runners-up, with Kunkler winning his night at Vashon Theatre in that comedy competition.
Kunkler has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central, MTV and Montreal’s “Just for Laughs.”
Kopczynski was born and raised in the mountains of eastern Washington and started performing comedy at age 11, doing pratfalls to make his sister laugh. His bio, stating that his act pulls from “life experience and poorly thought-out opinions,” includes his second-place finish in the 2018 Seattle International Comedy Competition. His 2019 special, “Full Grown Man,” on drybarcomedy.com, and his 2021 Comedy Dynamics special, “Live at the Spokane Comedy Club,” have been widely viewed.
General admission tickets to the stand-up show, $30, can be purchased at vashontheatre.com or at Vashon Theatre’s box office.
