‘Red Tiger Tales’ comes complete with sublime silliness

The red-nosed clowns of UMO Ensemble’s physical theater company will perform on Aug. 11.

Serving up eye candy for the kids and mind acrobatics for adults, the red-nosed clowns of UMO Ensemble’s physical theater company will perform their acclaimed production, “Red Tiger Tales” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, in the meadow of Open Space for Arts & Community.

In the show, ensemble members explore ancient tales from around the world with masks, puppetry, live music, and breathtaking physical skill. Audiences can expect to see characters in the show walk on wires, dangle from ropes, juggle, balance, sing, and clown their way through life’s challenges.

UMO, based on Vashon, is the Northwest’s premiere physical theater company, whose work “stumbles as if by accident, on the part of us that’s closest to heaven,” according to The Village Voice.

“Red Tiger Tales” promises laughter, revelation, and a trip around the world.

Gates for the show will open at 3 p.m. on Aug. 11. Admission is by donation, with a suggested donation of $20 for adults and $10 for children, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and the whole family. Service dogs are welcome, but leave pets at home. Walk-ups are welcome, but RSVPs are encouraged at openspacevashon.com.
