Buy art from VAA’s archives

Vashon Allied Arts will opens its doors for the annual Archives Art Sale this weekend. Discover a bounty of art treasures Friday through Sunday, May 27, 28 and 29, thanks to Island artists who have cleared their storage places. Expect significant reduced prices on everything from jewelry and sculpture to paintings and fiber.

 The sale is invariably one of the Island’s largest gatherings of art every year. Over the brief history of this art sale, Island artists have earned almost $44,000 from the sale of their works – a significant contribution to Island economy.

The sale be held at 5 to 8 p.m. Friday May 27, for VAA members only (or join at the door), continues 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

‘Church’ says good-bye for now

The Church of Great Rain will have its season finale at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at Open Space for Arts & Community. The show will feature the regular cast of characters in The Holy Roller Radio Players and the Church house band. Special guests will be reggae legend Clinton Fearon and “Spokesongs” author Willie Weir. Humor will abound.

“This show will knock your socks off and leave you laughing throughout the summer until we meet again in the fall,” an organizer said.

Poetry at Café Luna

Passport to Poetry is going on this weekend (see story page 1), with a plethora of events, but Café Luna will also have an open mic poetry night at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 28. Richard Waits and Joe Allison will emcee.
