Vashon Island Chorale’s next concert, “A Celebration of Carols,” will include “Fantasia on Christmas Carols,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a “Consort of Christmas Carols” by PDQ Bach and several seasonal songs by British and American composers. The concert will be held on Dec. 6 and 7.

The Vashon Island Chorale has named choral conductor Gary D. Cannon as its new artistic director. Cannon served as guest conductor in the fall of 2007, giving members of the chorale and the community a chance to get to know him.
Free Concerts in the Park continue with Island Jazz Quintet at Ober Park at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21. The renowned Island group will play jazz standards and new tunes, too. Members of Island Jazz Quintet include Maggie Laird on melodica and vocals, Richard Person on horns, Todd Zimberg on drums, Todd Gowers on upright bass and Tom Wilkins on keyboards.
