The Vashon Maury Island Heritage Association still has a few tickets available for a cruise around the Island on Sunday, Aug. 17, aboard the Virginia V. Boarding will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the north-end passenger ferry dock. It will cruise south around Point Robinson, into Quartermaster Harbor and north along Colvos Passage past Camp Sealth and other historic sites, returning to the dock around 5:30 p.m.
The Vashon Celtic Dance Society and the Vashon Park District are hosting a free summer Irish Ceili Dance on the grass of the Village Green from 6 p.m. to dark Saturday, Aug. 16. The dance will will feature live music by the Vashon Ceili Band (Martin Nyberg, Marilyn Kleyn and Steve Austin).
Island Jazz Quintet will play its brand of smooth, cool jazz at Ober Park, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, as part of the free Concerts in the Park series. The quintet’s full cabaret sound has been heard in venues throughout the region and internationally for a decade.
Seattle band Trombone Cake will glide across the Sound to Vashon on Saturday to perform at the Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi.
At 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, Corbin Beach will host the last of this summer’s World Music concert and folk dance parties sponsored by Vashon Park District and Vashon Folkdancers.

Canadian folk-blues-country rocker Herky Cutler will bring his genre of guitar playing to Café Luna at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8. Those who attend should prepare to play a percussion instrument Cutler will provide.
Vashon resident, Canadian national and professional trapshooter Sue Nattrass, nominated early this July to Canada’s four-person Olympic shooting team, is aiming this August for the one target she has yet to hit in her illustrious 39-year career: an Olympic medal.

Islewilde, Vashon’s homegrown, collaborative, build-it-yourself arts celebration, will unfold at Farmstad on the north end of the Island on Aug. 15 to 17, after nine days of workshops where participants will build puppets, make costumes and design events for the festival.
Trolls Cottage, the band that loves the Island as much as the Island loves them, is coming back to perform at the Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.
