Vashon Opera will open its eighth season with Francis Poulenc’s 1957 opera, “Dialogues of the Carmelites,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Katherine L White Hall.

“Dialogues” is a gripping tale based on historical events that took place during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror.

Told in a series of 12 tableaux, the story of loyalty and sacrifice, faith, community and country unfolds with a haunting, modern musical score that echoes sacred music of an earlier day.
