Shake a leg on Thursday night

Café Luna will clear away the tables for a free night of salsa dancing hosted by Darryl Caldwell from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14. The first 30 minutes of the evening will feature dance instruction, and then everyone will be free to dance the night away.

A new blues band plays the Bike

A new band, One More Mile, will have its debut performance at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Red Bicycle Bistro. Band members include Islander guitar legend Jason Lollar, multi-instrumentalist David Salonen, harmonica player Mike Nichols, blues rocker Tom Bean and budding young percussionist Sam Veatch.

Lollar is a luthier known throughout the music world for crafting a line of pickups for electric guitars. His clientele include such music giants as John Fogerty, Steve Miller, Keith Richards, Stevie Wonder and Joe Walsh. The concert is free and open to all ages until 11 p.m., 21 and older after that.

According to concert promoter Pete Welch, the concert will be a night to remember. “Jason rarely plays out, so this will be a treat for Islanders,” Welch said.

Locals bring their songs to Luna

A free double bill of music featuring local singers and songwriters Cosmo Harrigan and Mark Wells will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Café Luna. Harrigan, 22, plays the guitar and accordion and says he draws his musical inspiration from folk, pop and punk groups. Wells, originally from Australia, has a vocal style that has been described as dynamic and light, with hints of James Taylor and Paul Simon. He has performed with a wide range of Island bands, including 5:01, Geordie’s Byre and The Diggers.
