Favorites return to the Bike
During the First Friday Art Walk this week, the Red Bicycle Bistro will have a free cover show with Olivia De La Cruz, followed by RedPerl.
De La Cruz, born and raised in Chelan, has been singing since she was five years old. Picking up a guitar when she was 16, she immediately started performing for tips at local coffee shops and wineries. Her performance at the Bike marks a return for her; she played at the bistro in December.
Following De La Cruz is a great example of the talent we’ve got right here at home, the amazingly gifted duo RedPerl. With Daryl Redeker on guitar and Sarah Perlman on the fiddle, RedPerl is an energetic band whose camaraderie comes through onstage, whether they’re singing an original tune or cranking on an instrumental. Their music swings, it has soul — and it is appealing to all ages.
De La Cruz will perform at 7:30 p.m. and RedPerl at 9:30 p.m. The show is an all-ages event until 11 p.m., when it’s open to those 21 and older.
Kate and Kat sing at the Heron
Singer/songwriters Kate MacLeod and Kat Eggleston, who have played together for more than a decade, will come together for a special night of music at the Blue Heron Saturday, Feb. 6. The performance marks the first time the two divas have performed together on Vashon.
MacLeod, who is based in Utah, brings fine fiddling, articulate guitar work and cutting-edge songwriting to the stage. She has released half a dozen CDs since 1995.
Islander Kat Eggleston offers up her beautiful alto voice, near-perfect guitar playing and skillful dulcimer work. Her new CD, “Speak,” is earning rave reviews and garnered her the 2010 Female Vocal Album of the Year Livie Award from LiveIreland, an Internet radio station.

Ex-Navy singer will belt it out
Wanda Plimmer, a singer who worked as a Navy musician for 10 years, will come to the Red Bicycle at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. She’ll be joined by local jazz musicians Todd Zimberg and Maggie Laird, along with members of her band.
As a Navy musician, Plimmer fronted the Navy Big Band in Seattle, singing charts from Duke Ellington to Cole Porter. While still enlisted, she auditioned for Seattle-based Vegas producer, Greg Thompson and was sent to sing and dance in showrooms from Japan to Bermuda, Los Angeles to Biloxi.

Americana comes to Luna
Portland musician Lyman Louis will perform from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Café Luna. Admission is free, but donations are recommended.
Louis doesn’t call himself a country songwriter but is making his mark in that world, recently ranking third on ReverbNation’s local country chart.
ReverbNation is an online music marketing platform.
Louis also has a strong Americana presence. “It used to be called folk, now it’s Americana. I don’t know what I’ll call it when I travel to Canada,” he said.
