Larry Murante will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Café Luna. Before the show, starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be a wine-tasting with Vashon Winery’s Ron Irvine. Murante’s voice and songwriting have been compared to such artists as Lyle Lovett, Hal Ketchum and Michael McDonald. Murante will play old favorites as well as songs from his newest release, “Point Of Entry.” Murante recently won the grand prize in the folk category of the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest and was a finalist in the Kerrville Grassyhill Newfolk Song Competition as well as a finalist in the Tucson Folk Festival. There is a suggested donation of $5.

The Shivering Denizens will play at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi. The group plays outlaw country music in the tradition of Hank Williams Sr., David Allen Coe, Johnny Cash and Johnny Paycheck. Big Valley Rangers, from Seattle, will open. Cover charge is $5. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m.; after that it is for ages 21 and older only.
Publish the Quest, a band led by Islander Jacob Bain, will take the stage at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, for a night of music and dancing. The band plays blues, rock, Ska, world pop and more, with catchy melodies, powerful lyrics and guitar lines, horns and a thumping bass. Cover charge is $8. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m., after which it is for ages 21 and older.
Seattle Mandolin Orchestra will present a concert at Havurat Ee Shalom, 15401 Westside Hwy, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. Welcome the first night of Hanukkah with traditional tunes, familiar holiday chestnuts and songs from around the world. Founded in 1968, the 20-member orchestra features the entire mandolin family of instruments, including mandolin, mandola, mandocello and mandobass. Thaddeus Spae will perform a free show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Café Luna. Spae’s show combines wry wit, boisterous storytelling and expressive vocals with 12-string guitar, harmonica, high-hat, trombone and more. Spae was a founding participant in the nationally known Seattle City Parks Buskers program, a prizewinner at the 2009 Tumbleweed Folk Festival songwriting competition and is listed in the 2010 King County Touring Arts Roster.
Vashon Theatre will host a Michael Jackson Sing-along at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16. Celebrate the career of Michael Jackson with his greatest videos, Jackson 5 performances and other vintage film and television footage, all with sing-along subtitles. Action Pack, from Seattle, is presenting the program. Tickets are $9 and are available at Vashon Theatre.
