Music on the Rock

A pops concerts by the combined bands of Vashon High School and McMurray Middle School will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at the high school. Admission is by donation.

The Diggers and The Raggedy Anns will share the bill at 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The Diggers is a well-known Vashon band. The Raggedy Anns is a five-piece band that plays “gypsy-driven rock ’n’ roll.” The show is free and for all ages until 11 p.m.

Greg Ruby, a Seattle guitarist and composer, will honor the music of Django Reinhardt on the Gypsy jazz legend’s 100th birthday with a collection of new compositions at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Blue Heron. Ruby will be joined by violinist Eugene Bazhanov, guitarist Doug Martin and bass player Spencer Hoveskeland. Delhi 2 Dublin, a Vancouver, B.C., dance band that plays a genre-busting blend of bhangra, Celtic, dub reggae and electronica, will take the stage at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Red Bicycle Bistro. Stanislaw Chalicki, a singer and songwriter who goes by the name “Stanislove,” will play a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at Café Luna. Stanislove performs a blend of acoustic blues, ragtime, swing and folk music .

Dave Peck, a Seattle-based jazz pianist, will appear in concert at the Blue Heron at 8 p.m. Friday, June 11. He’ll bring along bassist Jeff Johnson and drummer Jo La Barbera to play songs from “Modern Romance,” a CD Peck recently recorded live at Jazz Alley. Caspar Babypants, a musical act for the toddler set, will play a benefit for the Vashon food bank at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, in Chautauqua Elementary’s multi-purpose room. Caspar Babypants (www.babypantsmusic.com) is the creation of Chris Ballew, who is best known as co-founder of the rock band The Presidents of the United States of America. Admission is $3 and canned food donations are also welcome.

Dana Lyons will perform a concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Havurat Ee Shalom, 15401 Westside Hwy. The concert, a joint production of the Vashon Wilderness Program and Homestead Farm and Wilderness Learning Community, is geared toward families with children, though organizers say listeners of all ages will enjoy Lyons’ repertoire of environmentally themed songs. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and are on sale at Books by the Way and Vashon Bookshop.
