Singers can join Vashon Island Chorale at registration sessions set for 6:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Vashon Methodist Church, and 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Vashon Library. Weekly chorale rehearsals will kick off Sept. 7, and culminate in concerts on Dec. 4 and 5 that will include “Oratorio de Noël” by Camille Saint-Saëns and other works. Justin Roberts plays for kids

Justin Roberts, one of the most popular acts on the family music circuit, will bring his band to Vashon Theatre for a high-octane show at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. It’s busy at the Bike

Bill Brown will bring his band The Kingbees to Red Bicycle Bistro at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, for a show concert organizer Pete Welch is billing as a night of “high energy, rockin’ blues.” There is a $5 cover charge. Soul Kata, a band that plays original music inspired by the likes of Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Alicia Keys, will play a free show at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Red Bicycle Bistro. Both shows are for all ages until 11 p.m. and 21 and older after that.

Discover dancing with Dűvő

Dűvő Ensemble, a Hungarian four-piece band with three fiddles, upright bass and a vocalist, will play a free show at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Ober Park. The show is being presented by Vashon Park District and Vashon Folkdancers. Dűvő plays a vast repertoire from all ethnic groups of the Carpathian basin, has released nine recordings and active in the popular “tanzhaus” movement, which combines folk dancing and music. On Vashon, they will be joined by two dancers, who will perform and teach dances.

Music and wine at Café Luna

Ron Irvine, owner of Vashon Winery, will offer a wine tasting at Café Luna from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13. The same night, Islander Ken Jacobsen will bring his guitar, cello and special guests to Café Luna at 7:30 p.m. Jacobsen’s concert will be a fundraiser for his upcoming performances at Burning Man 2010, an event held in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada. Seattle-area guitarist Damon Buxton, a regular at Café Luna, will return at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, for a free solo show.

Incendio comes to Ober Park

Incendio, a Latin group that has played high-.spirited concerts on the Island, will return to Vashon for a free, family-friendly summer concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug 19, in Ober Park.
