Dance to jazz and funk
Olympic Sound Collective Trio, a group that plays a fusion of soul, jazz and funk, will play a free show at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the Red Bike. Instrumentation includes B3 organ, keyboard, percussion and guitar. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m. and ages 21 and older after that.
Teens play at Café Luna
Julia Hanowell and Kiki Means, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 23, in a free concert at Café Luna. Hanowell is 17 and has been playing the guitar for the past four years. She performs regularly at open mics around town. Means has been immersed in music since she was a little girl, providing lead and harmonies during shared family music. She says that her father Gary, who has encouraged and taught her throughout the years, is her strongest musical influence.
Posse plays the Bike
Posse Impossible, a Island music collective, will play a free show at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Red Bike. The band includes Gabriel Blake, Brian Forsythe, Ian Bradley, Simon Hathaway, Kael Noah and Genelle Benker. They play funk, rock and hip-hop. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m., and ages 21 and older after that.
Jazz quartet comes to town
The Jon Sheckler Group, headed by 20-year-old Jon Sheckler, will bring jazz to Café Luna at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24, in a free concert. The quartet plays original compositions and arrangements, and includes Erika Price on piano, Eli Meisner on guitar, Nathan Parker on bass and Sheckler on drums. They recently released “Relativity,” their first album, comprised of seven original tunes. Copies will be available at the concert.
Perform at an open mic
There will be a free, all-ages open mic on 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 26, at the Village Green. This event is part of the free series of world music and dance programs being offered this summer by Vashon Folkdancers and the Vashon Park District. Music fest is coming up
The annual Vashon Island Music Festival is coming up. The festival, which will feature 24 acts playing over the course of July 30 to Aug. 1, will take place at Paradise Ridge Equestrian Park. This year, camping at the festival is an option. For information, visit www. rez1productions.com.
