Concerts in the park go on
Incendio will return to Ober Park at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug 19. The band blends its members’ influences and passions: Liza Carbé’s flamenco and classical guitar training, Jean-Pierre Durand’s Peruvian heritage and his penchant for rock-star dramatics, and Jim Stubblefield’s far-flung travels and musical collaborations.The show is part of a series sponsored by Vashon Allied Arts, Vashon Park District and Giraffe. The series will conclude with Portage Fill and Vashon Island Chorale at 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Ober Park. Portage Fill, an Island big band that formed in the 1970s, currently has 17 members. Vashon Island Chorale’s artistic director, Gary Cannon, has chosen music from Gershwin, Ellington and other jazz composers for his singers to perform along with the band.
Soul night at the Bike
Soul Senate, a seven-piece band that finds its inspiration in the funky, horn-filled sounds of the 1960s music of Stevie Wonder and the Stax label of Memphis, will play a free show at Red Bicycle Bistro at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m., and 21 and older after that.
Two bands pack a punch
Two bands, Doseywallips and Fern Cove, will split the bill at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Red Bicycle Bistro. Doseywallips, a Seattle trio, plays pop music that blends elements of country, roots and a bit of punk. Fern Cove was formed last winter on Vashon. The players are Leon Bernstein, Will van Spronsen and Loe Bernstein. The show is free and for all ages until 11 p.m., and 21 and older after that.
A pop/folk trio visits the Isle
May Stands Still, the San Diego-born pop/folk band, will perform a free show at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Café Luna in a free concert. The band brings mandolin, violin, vocals and bass to the mix.
A singer/songwriter at Luna
Lunusa, a singer and songwriter from Brooklyn, New York, will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at Café Luna. There is no cover charge, though tips are encouraged. Lunusa is the stage name of Kathryn Logan, who grew up in Nashville, the daughter of a sound engineer who worked with such names as Dan Fogelberg and the Allman Brothers. Celebrate chamber music
The music of Handel, Haydn and Mozart will be played at an upcoming house concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 29, at a private Island residence. The concert, a benefit for Vashon Chamber Music Festival, will feature Rowena Hammill and Douglas Davis on cello, Martin Kuuskmann on bassoon and Roxanna and Ron Patterson on viola and violin.
