Stand-up comedy at the Bike
Performer and comedy maven Steffon Moody will emcee a comedy extravaganza at 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Red Bicycle Bistro.
The evening will feature a lineup of local talent, including stand-up veterans Katherine Daves, Per-Lars Blomgren, Darryl Caldwell and Andy Royer.
Rookie comics Karen Biondo and Aimee Cartier will also take the stage.

Irish dancers step out for St. Paddy’s
Vashon’s own step dance group, a chapter of Scoil Rince Slieveloughane, which in Gaelic means the Hillside Irish Dancers, will perform several times in the next few days.
The group of seven Island girls between the ages of 11 and 18 is taught by Sara Fogard, an accomplished dancer.
At 6 p.m. Saturday, March 13, the group will perform at St. John Vianney’s annual St. Patrick’s dinner. Call 567-4149 to check if tickets are still available.
An hour later, at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 13, the group will head to an Irish céilí dance at the Grange Hall, located in the north-end ferry dock parking lot. At that event, Irish session musicians Michael Graham and Andrew Anderson will provide traditional Irish dance tunes, and Irish dancer and teacher Kathleen O’Grady-Graham will teach and call all the dances. No experience is necessary to participate. The suggested donation is $10 general and $7 for students and seniors.
The dancers will also perform from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at The Hardware Store Restaurant, and they will also be a part of a Celtic variety show at Blue Heron Art Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20. That event will mark the 10th year anniversary of the Island band Geordie’s Byre. For ticket information, call 463-5131.
La Boucherie offers dinner and a film
Vashon restaurant La Boucherie will offer a four-course meal, followed by a screening of a new documentary film, “Fresh,” on Sunday, March 14.
The film profiles farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing the food system.
The cost is $59 per person. Dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m., and the film will be shown at approximately 6 p.m., with dessert at 7:45 p.m.
Café Luna offers music and wine
Mucho Gusto will return to Café Luna at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 12. The progressive jazz group regularly plays at the café on the second Friday of each month, coinciding with a wine tasting offered by Vashon Winery owner Ron Irvine from 6 to 8 p.m. on the same evening.
The cost of the tasting is $8 for five wines. There is no cover for the music.
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, Jonathan Nicholson, a self-taught fingerstyle guitarist and songwriter from Spokane, will take the stage at Café Luna for a free show.
A play about the right to vote
Vashon Park District and the the Vashon chapter of the League of Women Voters will present a free performance of “May’s Vote,” a play about the suffrage movement in the state of Washington, at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 21, in the multi-purpose room at Chautauqua Elementary School.
Barbara Callander and Toni Douglass will portray two leaders in the suffrage movement — prim and proper Emma Smith DeVoe and flamboyant May Arkwright Hutton — who worked side by side to win the vote for women in Washington in 1910.
Donations will be accepted for the performers, who have toured original plays about women’s history for more than a decade.
