Bluegrass at the Bike
A new Vashon band, Green Island Bluegrass, will have its debut at Red Bicycle Bistro in a free, all-ages show set for 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8. Band members include Daniel Agne, Cliff Simpson, Jean Richstad, Dan Brown and Rochelle Munger.
Wine and song at Café Luna
A wine tasting and free Americana/folk music concert will take place at Café Luna this Friday, Oct. 8. The wine tasting, presented by Vashon Winery’s owner Ron Irvine, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. Boyd and Wain, an award-winning Americana/folk duo, will take the stage for a toe-tapping concert that includes original songs and lively fiddle playing.
Nathan Wade and his band play
Nathan Wade & The Dark Pioneers, a Seattle band that plays Americana music, will have a free show at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The band describes its music as “rootsy, fire and brimstone-laden tunes.” The show is free and for all ages until 11 p.m., when the venue switches to a 21 and older policy.
The Whateverly Brothers sing out
The Whateverly Brothers will play a free show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Café Luna. The group is comprised of Dan Roberts, Chris Glanister and Matthew Moeller, who have performed for many years as solo artists and members of folk groups across the Pacific Northwest. Audiences can expect a lively evening of participatory music that includes spoons, whistle, bohdran, cittern and vocals.
Tingstad and Rumbel return
Northwest duo and Grammy award-winning artists Tingstad and Rumbel will return to Vashon at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, to celebrate their 25th year of making music together. Since 1985, the duo has delighted audiences across the nation performing their unique instrumental sound, which combines Eric Tingstad’s American finger-style guitar with Nancy Rumbel’s melodic woodwinds. Country rock at Quartermaster
All the Pretty Horses, a band from the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado, will play a danceable blend of country and rock music in Burton on 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Quartermaster Inn. The inn will serve snacks, and the bar will be open. The show is free.
A Panache concert is coming up
Island chanteuse Rebecca Wittman will perform at the Blue Heron as part of the Panache Jazz Series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16. Wittman’s eclectic set list will reflect the journey that landed her on Vashon six years ago. Tickets, $16 and $19, can be purchased at VAA’s regular ticket outlets or by calling 463-5131.
