Vashon Opera’s artistic director Jennifer Krikawa (shown with Giacomo Moody) will sing the title role in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” which will be staged by the opera company at 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Bethel Church.
She’ll be joined by a constellation of other Northwest opera and national stars in the production, and Vashon Island Chorale director Gary Cannon will conduct the orchestra.
Both performances of the opera are almost sold out, but students, families and other Islanders can still take advantage of $15 tickets to the opera’s final dress rehearsal, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Bethel Church.
Tickets for the rehearsal are on sale now at www.vashonopera.org, Books by the Way and Vashon Bookshop. “Madama Butterfly” tells the tragic story of the doomed romance between a beautiful young geisha and an American naval officer.
