Artist Margi Amstrup, an islander since 1999, received a prestigious commission last year to create the 2024 Washington State Duck Stamp.
Now, with the commission complete, Amstrup’s work appears on the cover of the 2024 Washington State Game Bird and Small Game Hunting Regulations booklet, which was released in hard copy to the public late last month. Copies of the booklet, which also contains an article about Amstrup, can be found at the licensing center of Island Home Center & Lumber.
As part of the awarded commission, Amstrup is required to sign 40 limited edition prints and 10 1-inch by 1½-inch Washington State Duck Stamps, which are sold by the Washington State Duck Stamp Program to collectors and wildlife enthusiasts. The proceeds go to secure and protect duck habitat in Washington.
These prints and stamps were released two weeks ago and are available at washingtonduckstamp.com.
As an artist, Amstrup moves between different genres but is best known for animal and human portraits, as well as landscapes. In addition to showcasing her latest collection in a solo show last year at Our Community Credit Union on Vashon, she also regularly participates in the Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) annual miniature show and other exhibits at the art center.
Throughout the years Margi has donated pieces through various art auctions in support of K-12 education, the Vashon Sportsmen’s Club, and VCA programs.
As an outdoor enthusiast and hunter, Amstrup is also a member of Ducks Unlimited.
