Singers and songwriters at the Bike
Greggory Stockert and Tasche de la Rocha will perform at Red Bicycle Bistro at 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 4.

Stockert’s folksinger roots reach back to performances in Greenwich Village and Haight Ashbury in the 1960s and listening to the album “Nashville Skyline” in Bob Dylan’s living room. He plays a weathered 1962 Gibson guitar and a 100-year-old banjo in a style he calls “clawgrass” — a combination of clawhammer and bluegrass. De la Rocha is a singer and songwriter who has been inspired by Leonard Cohen, roots and folk music and her own background being raised in a circus family. This is a free, all-ages event.

Chamber music from the Elizabethan era is at the Church of the Holy Spirit
The Salish Sea Early Music Festival will present “An Elizabethan Broken Consort,” a concert of renaissance chamber music from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Musicians will include Jeffrey Cohan on renaissance transverse flutes, Courtney Kuroda on violin and Lisa Michele Lewis on harpsichord and virginals.

The concert takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Works by English composers Thomas Morley, Orlando Gibbons, John Baldwyn and Hugh Ashton will be presented alongside Italian and French works. Flamenco comes to the Blue Heron
Flamenco performers Benjamin Woods and Arleen Hurtado, who call their duo Gypsy Tears, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Blue Heron Art Center.

Janice Randall, who is director of performing arts at Vashon Allied Arts, said Hurtado’s performance will have “dramatic, powerful and sensual dancing, footwork and percussion.” 

Woods, who accompanies on guitar and vocals, has been active in the Los Angeles and San Francisco flamenco communities. An international recording star in Japan, Canada and Europe with albums of flamenco guitar, he also created a new genre, “flametal” — a blend of heavy metal rock and flamenco traditions.

In support of the concert, Sea Breeze Farm’s La Boucherie will feature a Spanish tapas menu on both Friday and Saturday evening, with authentic Spanish small plates featuring locally grown ingredients.
