Voice of Vashon’s (VOV)annual, over-the-top Lip-Sync Battle Birthday Bash fundraiser has just returned with brand new video performances now streaming through Oct. 27 on VOV’s website, voiceofvashon.org.
This year’s contest features musical surprises by some of Vashon’s silliest and most surprising talents, whose performances have been expertly captured on video and edited by West McLean and Shelley Hanna.
It’s all for a good cause: to help keep Voice of Vashon strong for our community.
Viewers, too, can participate by supporting their favorite impersonators and thereby supporting Vashon’s homegrown community radio, TV and emergency alert system.
Here’s how it works:
Contestant videos are available on voiceofvashon.org right up to the time of a live broadcast, on Oct. 27, that will decide the winners. Viewers can vote for their favorites and, in the time-honored tradition of Vashon’s unofficial mayoral contest, are encouraged to vote early and often.
In fact, for the low price of $1 per vote, viewers can stuff as many dollars onto a ballot as desired to buy the election for their favorite artist. They can also lobby their friends to vote as well.
On Oct. 27, the three acts with the most votes will move on to the live finale of the Lip-Sync Battle, held at 7 p.m. at Open Space for Arts & Community, and hosted by VoV host Jim Marsh, better known as “Whiskey Jim” to some listeners.
Admission to the finale is by invitation only and reserved for the sponsors and judges, to keep it small and safe.
Everyone else can watch at home by following a link to the live stream, to be posted on voiceofvashon.org on the day of the event.
Voting will remain open for the duration of the finale to see who will win the coveted People’s Choice Award, while judges decide on the Golden Lips Award. Viewers can vote in real-time by texting the word “LIPS” to 1- 805-500-0868 (1-805-5000-VOV) to receive a ballot and continue voting.
Vashon Pharmacy has been the major sponsor of the contest for the past two years running. Other sponsors include Palouse Winery, Pandora’s Box Pet Products, Nashi Orchards, Vashon IGA, Fair Isle Animal Clinic, Giraffe and Camp Colvos.
