Voice of Vashon’s community radio station KVSH 101.9 will celebrate its first anniversary with a special show — “Xtravaganza” — on Saturday and Sunday at the Open Space for Arts & Community.

One of KVSH’s signature programs, “All Vashon All the Time,” is a playlist that showcases local artists. A group of the artists whose music has been played over the Vashon airwaves this past year will gather to create the KVSH birthday show, with proceeds benefitting Voice of Vashon. Open Space is co-producing the Xtravaganza with musicians Jon Whalen and Luke McQuillin, also known as 10-10 Productions.

The doors will open to the sound of the island band Rumor Has It, followed by KVSH DJs Jeff and Cindy Hoyt. In a case of art imitating life, the Hoyt duo will act as radio announcers in an imaginary old-time radio studio that plays contemporary and live Vashon music. With comedy breaks between acts, the Hoyts will introduce performances by vocalists Arlette Moody, Terri Cole, Jon Whalen and Dianne Krouse. McQuillin and Whalen have assembled a house band with Lonesome Mike Nichols, McQuillin, Whalen, Doug (Slab) Findley, Adrian Witherspoon, Christopher Overstreet, Jesse Whitford and San Francisco musician Duane Campbell. Gregg Curry and Mark Graham will play during intermissions, when treats and drinks will be available. The second act will include a top secret grand finale.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. for Saturday’s 8 p.m. show and at 4 p.m. for Sunday’s 5 p.m. show. Tickets are $20 per person and available at Vashon Book Shop and BrownPaperTickets.com.
