Hillstomp comes back to the Bike

Hillstomp will have a show at 9 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The duo plays what they call “do-it-yourself hill country blues stomp,” combining bluesy singing, slide guitar and a homemade drum kit constructed of five-gallon food drums attached to a bass drum and snares. Opening for Hillstomp will be Islander Phil Royal. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m. and after that, for ages 21 and older only. The cover charge is $5.

Landis and Wells will play an Island show

Songwriter Robyn Landis and troubadour Mark Wells will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Café Luna. Their set list will combine original songs with favorite covers. They will be joined by Charles Reed, a Vashon guitarist who plays with a number of local bands. There’s no cover.

World music duo returns to Café Luna

Hejira, the Seattle world music phenomenon, played last December at Café Luna and will return with its signature mix of classical, folk and Arabian styles for a free encore performance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27.

Islander Rob Harmon was there when the duo of guitarist Don Baragiano and cellist Ashraf Hakim performed before at Luna, and he was stunned by what he heard.

In an e-mail to Baragiano, Harmon said, “My wife Kelly and I were both astonished that you played here on Vashon Island. We are unaccustomed to the level of musicianship, creativity and clarity you shared with us.”

There’s music at Buddha Bar

Buddha Bar and Lounge, located inside Spice Route Cuisine of India, will feature house and electronic downtempo music spun by DJ Deego starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 27.

Eugene Wendell & The Demon Rind play

Eugene Wendell & The Demon Rind will take the stage at Red Bicycle Bistro at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27. The 10-member band includes Kwab Copeland, Kurt Bloch and Ian Moore. Moore, a well-known Islander, recorded and co-wrote the Seattle band’s most recent nine-song demo.

Opening acts will include Jet Sparks and Erik Reimnitz. There is no cover charge. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m. and for ages 21 and older after that.

It’s a double bill for next ‘New Works’

Island musicians and songwriters Steve Amsden and Kevin Almeida will be the stars of Vashon Allied Arts next “New Works” concert, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Blue Heron. They will be joined by almost a dozen musical friends as they weave in and out of shared sets with duos, trios and more at the concert.

Comics will brings laughs to Sound Food

Veteran comic Jan Barrett, who lived on Vashon for eight years back in the 1970s and ’80s, will perform a night of comedy at Sound Food on Saturday, April 3. She’ll be joined by another comedienne, Rénee Perrault.
