Vashon-Maury Island Chamber Orchestra, led by musical director Karin Choo, will offer fall concerts featurng the the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Aaron Copland and Morton Gould this Saturday at Vashon Methodist Church.

In keeping with the orchestra’s tradition, the day will start at 11 a.m. with a concert especially designed for children. That program will be narrated by Islanders Kim Thal and Stacey Hinden.

An evening concert, set for 8 p.m., will be a more grown-up affair.

The concerts will feature clarinetist Terri Garrett in her first solo performance on the Island. Garrett, who moved to Vashon three years ago, has performed with orchestras including Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Symphony, Northwest Sinfoneitta and Tacoma Symphony.

The wide-ranging program will include Bach’s “Branden-burg Concerto No. 3,” Villa-Lobos’ “Aria from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5,” Copland’s clarinet concerto and Morton Gould’s “Spirituals for Strings and Harps.”

Three guest artists — Michelle Wilcox on harp, Ken Jacobsen on guitar and Linda Lee on piano — will also bring music to the stage.

Several middle school students from the Vashon Youth Symphony will also join the orchestra in its performance of the Bach Brandenburg Concerto.

Vashon-Maury Island Chamber Orchestra will perform two concerts on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Vashon Methodist Church. The first concert, for children, takes place at 11 a.m. Admission is by donation. An evening concert will take place at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 and $7, and will be sold at the door.
