Big name acts and high-quality entertainment will close out the month of April on Vashon, so decide now which shows you want to see.

San Francisco-based roots singer Nell Robinson will bring her bluegrass and soulful All Star Band to Vashon for a show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Blue Heron. Robinson has been compared to Emmylou Harris and political activist and singer Hazel Dickens, and her band’s instrumentation includes mandolin, slide steel, guitar, banjo, fiddle and string bass. Grammy Award winner Michelle Shocked will return to Vashon with her 2012 “Roccupy” tour at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Open Space for Arts & Community.

The concert, inspired by the broad-based Occupy movement and Shocked’s involvement in the group Occupy Fights Foreclosures, will include audience favorites as well as new, unreleased material. Volunteers from the audience will be asked to come on stage to sing along with tour opener Jimmy Cabeza deVaco.

Lovers of musical theater, rejoice — Drama Dock will present two benefit performances of the revue “Side by Side by Sondheim” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Vashon High School.

The songs of Sondheim — considered one of the best lyricists and composers of all time, with credits such as “West Side Story,” “Gypsy,” “Sweeney Todd” and “Into the Woods” — will be sung by a constellation of Island singers, including Elizabeth Ripley, Louie Mangione, Elizabeth Anthony and Arlette Moody.
