Holiday showcase of local musicians to benefit a good cause

The evening will be a who’s who of local musician.

Vashon Events’ Annual Holiday Showcase, a staple of the holiday season on Vashon, will return at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Snapdragon’s Black Cat Cabaret.

The evening will be a who’s who of local musicians, all gathered to play holiday tunes that runs the gamut from bluesy to folksy to soulful and rocking. The show will end with a lively sing-along, with everyone welcome to add their voice to the holiday chorus.

Performers will include Allison Jones; Andre Sapp, Danny Powers and Kim Thal; Chris O’Brien; Christine Patterson; Colette and Shawn Jones; Dan Tyack; Gillian and Nick Simmons, with Isaac Slade; Guido Perla and Harold Burks Jr.; Helen Pendergast and Iris Spring; John Browne; Kenny and Indigo Alton; Maijah; Mark Wells; Martin and Melissa Feveyear; Michael Whitmore; Rick Dahms, Wesley Peterson and Lonesome Mike Nichols; Roger Taylor; VasHonk; and Wyatt and Gabriel Reily-Bates.

The show is a benefit for Vashon Events’ free Music Instrument Library, located next door to the Vashon Tool Library at Open Space for Arts & Community.

The library, founded in 2015, boasts a wide variety of string, wind, and percussion instruments, as well as amps and other sound equipment.

All instruments can be checked out for up to three months, with the stipulation that they must remain on Vashon. According to Vashon Events’ website, 84% of users are children and young people up to the age of 25, meaning that the library is nurturing a new generation of island musicians.

In a testimonial for the library, local musician Joseph Panzetta — who has both borrowed and donated instruments to the library — perhaps said it best, calling the library a “love bomb.”
