A brand new production of “Camelot” — a hit musical celebrating the legend of King Arthur — will open this weekend at Vashon High School.

Students from the school’s theater department will take center stage and also work behind the scenes and in the orchestra pit to bring the show to life.

Directed by Stephen Floyd and Susan Hanson, the show will star Sage Everett as King Arthur and Anna Rose Warren as his beautiful queen, Guinevere. Marshall Montgomery will play Lancelot, the dashing French knight who saves Arthur’s kingdom but also steals the heart of Guinevere.

“Camelot,” written and composed by the legendary duo Lerner and Loewe, took Broadway by storm in 1960 and was made into a film in 1967.

The show’s plot includes such medieval staples as white-bearded wizards, jousting tournaments, royal pageantry, lusty ladies in waiting and knights in shining armor.

The show will run March 11 through March 27. Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with $12 tickets for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Sunday family matinees take place at 2 p.m., when all seats are $10. On Saturday, March 12, there will be a benefit performance for the senior class. All tickets are $15 and include a dessert intermission and a silent auction. Saturday, March 19, is Rotary Night. All seats for that show are also $15, and a portion of the proceeds wil benefit Rotary service projects.
