Just Fiddlin ’Round

Megan Hackett and Hannah Scheer, lead fiddlers and singers for Just Fiddlin’ ‘Round, are kicking off their 2008 performance season with a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Café Luna.

The girls, now 12 and 13, are adding a little country rock and will be showing off some fancy fiddling in “Devil Went Down to Georgia,” along with their old favorites. New ballads and bluegrass are also on the list, including “Homeward Bound” and “Can the Circle Be Unbroken.”

Younger siblings Merideth Hackett and Preston Scheer will add their vocals, percussion and cello to the mix in a short bonus set. 

After the group performs at Café Luna, they will perform at Seattle’s Folklife Festival, where they’ll play in the Rainier Room from 11:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Monday, May 26.

Allan Thomas

Allan Thomas, long-time singer, songwriter and guitarist from Kauai, will play acoustic folk rock and blues at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Café Luna

Thomas signed his first record deal when he was 18 and was a staff songwriter for ABC Music in the late 1970s. He moved to Kauai in 1983 and released his second album “The Island” on his own Black Bamboo Recordings label in 1989.

In 1997 Thomas released his third album, “Coconut Culture,” featuring a duet with Graham Nash.

In October 2007 Thomas released his fourth album “Making Up For Lost Time” joined again by Graham Nash, James Taylor’s bassist Jimmy Johnson and Tris Imboden of Chicago on drums.

In 1996, Graham Nash said this about Thomas: “Allan Thomas is a singer and a songwriter, but he’s more than that. … He’s been there in that sun and in that sea, long enough to have soaked it up into him, into his heart. … And it comes out in his songs. He’s a really fine songwriter.”
