Come as you are to a party

Are you having a hard time getting off the couch becasue your jammies are just too comfy? Why not party in your PJs? The Red Bike is having a pajama party at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12. The party will feature tunes spun by Manzanita’s very own DJ FroZen Fresh. The party is free and for all ages.

Drink wine and hear music

A wine tasting and a free concert by Islander Greg Dember are on tap at Café Luna starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12. Vashon Winery owner Ron Irvine will host the tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. Dember’s concert will start at 7:30 p.m. and include the singer/songwriter’s piano and acoustic guitar styles, as well as a repertoire of original songs from four albums, including the recent “Water Makes Waves.”

Double bill on the Bike stage

Nashville chanteuse Tori Sparks and the Vashon band Blue Monster will share the bill at Red Bicycle Bistro at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. Sparks boasts a show that is equal parts singing and standup humor. Blue Monster plays what they describe as “instrumental power psychedelic funk.” Band members include Ken Jacobsen, J.P. Ouellette, Nigel Browne, Donovan Curry, Jason Lollar and Dave Desrochers. The show is free and for all ages until 11 p.m., and 21 and older after that.

A new Island band will play

Jon Whalen and the Field Hands will take Café Luna’s stage for a free show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. Band members include Whalen on rhythm guitar, bassist Dorsey Davis, percussionist Simon Martin and electric guitarist Richard Lipke.

‘Madwoman’ hits high school

“The Madwoman of Challiot” will be presented by Vashon High School theater arts students Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 18 through 21, at the Vashon High School Theater, with performances at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The play, written in 1943 by French playwright Jean Giraudoux during the Nazi occupation of Paris, is a madcap comic fantasy that tells the story of a group of greedy corporate bigwigs who have located oil underneath a small café in Paris, and the eccentric madwoman who thwarts their plans for world domination. The play is appropriate or all ages, and tickets cost $5 for all performances.

An Island weaver has a show

Well-known Island fiber artist Carolyn Price Dyer has 19 works in a two-person show, “Constructed Inquiries: Tapestries,” on view at La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum through Dec. 31. The other artist featured in the show is Linda Rees. For more information, visit www.laconnerquilts.com.
