The curtain will go up on the Church of Great Rain’s final show of the spring season at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Open Space for Arts & Community.

The homegrown variety show will feature its regular cast of “Holy Roller Radio Players,” tackling comedy topics, including the source of the “Vashon Hum,” a twisted re-enactment of a recent Dockton Road community meeting and a sketch about a mysterious object found in a trunk at Granny’s Attic.

The show’s special musical guest will be the virtuoso Bosnian guitarist Amir Beso, who the Seattle Times called “Bosnia’s answer to Jimi Hendrix.” Beso has played several times on the Island as part of “Bosnian Blues” concerts produced by Vashon Park District and Vashon Folkdancers. The Church’s house band will also entertain the crowd.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the show. Tickets are $5 and for sale at Books by the Way, Vashon Bookshop and the door.

Children are admitted free to Church of Great Rain performances, but organizers warn that Sunday’s show has some spicy subject matter, so parental guidance is suggested.
