Get ready for the funk and soul sound of the seven-piece band Soul Senate, which will play its high-energy rhythm and dancing tunes beginning at 9 p.m. Friday at the Red Bike.

Soul Senate bridges the funky music of the 60s and early 70s — the sound of bands like the Meters, Stevie Wonder and the Stax label of Memphis — with the distinctly modern music of Raphael Saadiq, Alice Russell, Eli Paperboy Reed and the New Mastersounds. Soul Senate claims its own musical territory with dancing grooves, well-crafted arrangements, instrumentals and vocal songs.

Each member of the band has between 10 to 30 years of experience on the local or national scene, playing countless venues and festivals from Bumbershoot to West Fest. The band has opened for touring acts like Orgone, Delta Nove, Will Bernard, Roy Ayers and the Monophonics.

This is an all-ages show until 11 p.m., then 21 and older after that. There will be a $5 cover, and ID is required.
