‘Schooling the World’ at Luna 

Lunavision and Peter Ray will present a free screening of the documentary film “Schooling the World,” from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Café Luna.

The film, shot on location in the northern Indian Himalayas, tells the story of the region’s indigenous Ladakhi people and the efforts of Western organizations such as UNESCO, USAID and the World Bank to launch expansive education aid projects in the region. Filled with interviews of local people as well as human rights advocates, the film was made to challenge perceptions and launch a deeper dialogue about the role one culture has to determine the educational priorities of another.  

A classic film on the big screen

Fatherhood is an epic adventure, so what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to take in “Lawrence of Arabia,” in a special dad’s day presentation at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Vashon Theatre. Winner of seven Academy Awards, the 1962 film stars such manly men as Peter O’Toole, Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Omar Sharif and Jose Ferrer, and tells the story of a flamboyant British military figure and his wartime exploits. Tickets are $7 each —and free for dads — a great value for a movie with the epic length of 216 minutes. 

Dancers get ready to fly to Never Never Land 

Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell take the stage in Vashon Dance Academy’s 15th annual performance: “Peter Pan,” set for Friday, June 24, through Sunday, June 26. The cast is composed of 120 dancers, showcasing choreography they helped develop this spring.  

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Produced by Dance! Vashon and directed by Cheryl Krown, artistic director of Vashon Dance Academy, the show features Chloe Zimberg and Laura Hicks in the title role of Peter. Wendy is played by Allison Spencer and Lizzy Schoen, and Tinkerbell is performed by LeAnne Anderson and Anna Hicks.
