This year marks the fifth summer that Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) will present its sprawling Vashon Summer Arts Fest, an eight-week bonanza of Vashon-made visual art.

The first of three opening receptions for Fest exhibits will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 1, with additional receptions planned for more shows that rotate into the festival from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 22 and Friday, Aug. 8.

During the festival, VCA will offer artists “mini-galleries” in the form of linear wall space or floor space to present collections of their work. The festival is dedicated solely to local artists and this year, will once again welcome both returning and new artists. All work in the festival is for sale.

“Many of the festival’s participants have never before shown their art,” said Lynann Politte, gallery director of VCA. “Others are experienced artists who recently moved to the island and are showing their work for the first time in their newly acquired home community… This variety gives the visitor a rich and diverse experience of Vashon art.”

This year, the festival boasts 34 solo shows and one group show of 15 potters.

Regular gallery hours are 12 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, except for installation weeks, which are the week before openings.

“There is something for everyone,” said Politte.
