The Bike will rock

Red Bicycle Bistro has a great pair of free concerts coming up. At 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, Garth Reeves will play muscular and heartfelt music that has long impressed his Island musician friends and fans, including Ian Moore, Jason Staczek and Pete Droge. Go to Reeves’ show — you’ll be impressed, too. At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, Eric Apoe and Bill Carter will take the Bike’s stage. Apoe is well known on the Seattle music scene. Carter is a Texas music legend who has written songs recorded by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Counting Crows, Waylon Jennings, The Derailers, Ruth Brown and others. He’s also played in a band with Johnny Depp, who is not scheduled to appear in Saturday’s show at The Bike.  

Puppets will please 

The Zambini Brothers and Bill Jarcho will present “Stories from Junk Puppet Land,” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Ober Park. The 40-minute puppet show, suitable for all ages, features whimsical characters constructed from recycled and discarded stuff, bringing to life a series of multi-cultural stories and funny vignettes through the simple magic of puppetry. There is a $5 admission charge, and all proceeds will be donated to Vashon Maury Community Food Bank. 

It’s time for techno  

Electronic music fans, rejoice — a two-part series called Techno in the Park will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Burton Adventure Recreation Center. The emcee, MirageSix (also known as Islander Marcus Fellbaum), will mix songs by Kraftwerk, La Roux, Daft Punk, Bedrock and other giants of the genre, and also serve up such sensory thrills as background video collage, club disco lights and fog machines. MirageSix’s second techno concert is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Ober Park. Both shows are free. 

Luna concert  

James Coates, a Sumner native who sings with a raspy style that has won him comparisons to Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, will play a free show of his rootsy, original music at Café Luna at 7 p.m. Friday, June 24.
